Our childhood

Created by Carol 3 years ago

There were quite a few of us cousins growing up in Soth East London just after the Second World War and the bomb sites were our playground.

All of my cousins, who lived in very close proximity, were boys and so I was the Tom Boy!

Brian and I were of similar age and were more like brother and sister and boy, didi we get into trouble from time to time - but what fun we had! I shall never forget the time Brian took me to a friends party in Adamsrill Road - my first, when we were about 13/14. I got a bit happy, shall we say, not used to vodka, never had it before, and dear Bri dumped me on the doorstep, rang the bell and ran home. My Dad was furious with him as he had promised to look after me. Poor old Bri got a real telling off and I was gronded for weeks.

We were also confirmed together in the ancient church in Wells Park Road Upper Sydenham - the posh end - we lived in Bell Green the bottom and poor end - the church has long been demolished - I was most upset when I did a tour around our old stamping ground a few years ago and it had gone.

Brian was a kind gentle soul just like his Dad, Uncle Fred.

There are no words to express my sorrow at his leaving us  but I am so very pleased we had the chance to 'talk' via facebook only last month. I assured him that his place was assured in the heavenly place reserved for all of God's true children and I know that dear Brian was at peace. Rest in peace and love Bri.xxx
